Microsoft is ending support for Internet Explorer 11 on June 15, 2022. In light of this announcement, Salesforce is planning to end its support for IE11 on the Lightning Platform on January 1, 2023. We are extending support — limited to critical issues, i.e., business-stopping and with no workaround (Sev1 or higher) — for an additional six months beyond Microsoft to ensure that our customers have extra time to prepare.

IE11 shipped nine years ago in 2013 , and it has not been meaningfully updated since its original release. It’s missing all web standards and engine innovations that have happened during this time, including standards that LWS, LWC, and SLDS depend on: Shadow DOM, custom elements, ECMAScript 6, CSS custom properties, CSS flexbox, ShadowRealms, and many others.

The Lightning Platform is built with standards in mind, leveraging the web platform to provide our developers with modern features, and to provide our customers and end-users a great experience by taking advantage of their built-in security and performance. In a study from 2016, the performance difference between IE11 and modern browsers could be slower by up to 50x.

Lightning Platform support for IE11, including Lightning Experience and Salesforce Classic, will end on January 1, 2023. This creates opportunities for the Lightning Platform to focus on advancing our products that benefit our customers using the state of the art in web technologies. To ensure a successful journey ahead, we highly recommend that customers migrate away from IE11 and to modern web browsers as releases following January 1, 2023 will have breaking changes.

Run a report to determine how many of your users are using IE11

Administrative reports enable your admin to identify users who still using IE11 that they need to move to a modern browser. To run the report in Lightning Experience, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Reports
  2. Click New Report
  3. In the Choose Report Type window, select Administrative Reports on the left panel and then select Users
  4. Add the Browser field to the columns
  5. Move Browser to Group Rows
  6. Click Add Chart
  7. Click Save and Run

This renders a full report of users and the browser that they use. You can also add additional filters to further narrow your scope. For more information, take the Introduction to Reports and Dashboards module on Trailhead or see the the Administrative Reports documentation.
