This year’s TrailblazerDX brought many promising new Agentforce features that were premiered at the opening keynote. Under the umbrella of the Agentforce2dx upgrade, admins and developers were promised more freedom to embed Agentforce anywhere and tailor it to their specific use cases.
One of the many new tools introduced was MuleSoft for Agentforce, which will allow developers to have more freedom to deploy agents in MuleSoft’s APIs to execute actions quickly across different systems.
To discover more about this exciting development, we sat down and spoke with the COO of Mulesoft, Ahyoung An, who spoke in detail about what developers can expect from these new capabilities and what an agentic future looks like for MuleSoft.
How Do Agentforce and MuleSoft Work Together?
A lot of work has gone into Salesforce’s “hard pivot” from copilots to agents, and it’s clear to see why. With the potential to streamline repetitive tasks and provide proactive insights, Agentforce has all the tools to change the way companies understand their customers and interact with them.
Even in its infancy, we’re already seeing practical use cases for Agentforce – BACA Systems are handling service calls using agents (without human intervention), and companies are integrating agents into Slack to help with recruitment and customer service issues.
Agentforce is already showing its individual prowess, but working alongside MuleSoft has the potential to take Salesforce agents to a whole new level.
Acquired by Salesforce for $6.5B in 2018, MuleSoft helps Salesforce by integrating it with other applications, data sources, and systems. With Agentforce behind it, companies can now access real-time customer, financial, or operational data that isn’t stored in Salesforce even faster.
Simply put, MuleSoft acts as the middleware or connector between Salesforce and external data, which will allow Agentforce to fetch, use, and act on data across these different systems. Because of this connection, Agentforce can work with comprehensive, real-time data, which allows the agent to provide quicker responses and more valuable insights.
Together, Agentforce and Mulesoft offer businesses a really robust solution that drives smarter decision-making and a seamless integration experience beyond Salesforce.
Understanding MuleSoft for Agentforce
MuleSoft for Agentforce was officially premiered at this year’s TrailblazerDX as an integration platform designed to enhance Agentforce. By enabling seamless integration with external systems through APIs and connectors, AI agents can access and act upon data across various platforms.
With this kind of integration in place, agents can perform tasks such as retrieving customer information or updating records in real time, thereby improving efficiency and customer experiences.
On a more granular level, MuleSoft unlocks data by connecting and integrating various applications and systems – whether cloud-based or on-premises – through APIs and pre-built connectors. This is done using the MuleSoft Anypoint Platform and Anypoint Code Builder, which have the “essential infrastructure to integrate AI agents with your entire IT ecosystem, allowing them to autonomously interact with APIs and drive efficient, high-quality customer interactions at scale.”

MuleSoft also keeps data security and governance in mind, as with this platform, you can centrally manage, govern, and secure data and APIs, from anywhere, as you build new experiences, products, and services to extend Agentforce.
Key Features and Tools
In terms of key features and tools, MuleSoft for Agentforce has a few.
Firstly, there’s the API Catalog. This is a directory of your APIs in one unified space, making it easy for Salesforce Admins to manage and view all their available APIs across MuleSoft, Salesforce, and Heroku.
Then there’s the Topic Center – a database and tool that makes it easy for developers to create topics (actions and instructions) for Agentforce as part of the API design process or from your existing API investment. This can assist with the efficiency of deployments of multi-system agents.
Another notable mention is MuleSoft for Agentforce’s main selling point: the ability to integrate with external services. With this platform, you can import MuleSoft APIs into Salesforce to make them available for integration with Agentforce, enhancing processes like transaction management.
As mentioned before, developers and admins alike can complete tasks by programmatically surfacing data from third-party applications. This can be done using the MuleSoft Agentforce Connector, which allows you to invoke Agentforce directly from Mule apps.

The Present and Future: Thoughts from MuleSoft’s COO, Ahyoung An
As Mulesoft positions itself for an agentic future, we sat down with MuleSoft’s Chief Operating Officer, Ahyoung An, to discuss the key focuses for MuleSoft and how they’re setting up for an agentic future.
Seeing (and Securing) Your Data Clearly
As agents continue to act on users’ behalf, data visibility and governance have never been more important.
Ahyoung likened APIs to windows that give you a clear view of your company’s most important asset – information.
“APIs are really a window into your organizations’ data,” said Ahyoung. “You don’t always know who has access to that window, what they’re actually doing with it, and what they’ll do once they enter the window into your house.”
“So API management really allows you to get a better understanding of who has access, how you actually manage it, how you govern it, how you provide access, and things like that. All of that combined is really the core of what MuleSoft goes forward with.”
Data protection, of course, is vital, and MuleSoft’s API management is going the extra mile to ensure that the right people – and in the future, agents – have access to the right data, with clear governance in every step.
Integration for Everyone
Integration has typically been the domain for developers, but as more teams look to build automation and connect systems themselves, MuleSoft is meeting them where they work – starting with Salesforce Flow.
“We’re extending the power of Flow and bringing those capabilities to make it safe,” Ahyoung explained. “[We’re] really democratizing integration to as many users as possible, really optimized for Salesforce users.”
By building on top of Flow’s declarative UI, MuleSoft is unlocking integration for Salesforce Admins and business technologists who may not have written a line of code, putting powerful connectivity tools into more hands.
Agents in Action
We were keen to find out if these developments were taking place in the “real world” yet, and Ahyoung spoke to us about how Adecco, a global recruiting company, is using MuleSoft to support their Agentforce rollout.
“Maybe you’ve been in this position or know somebody who has applied for a job and never heard back. You have no idea what happened, right? You’re left wondering, ‘Was I not a fit? Did something happen? Did they look at my application?’ That creates a different kind of response and reaction for the applicant.”
“Adecco wants to really change that. They want to make sure all applicants get a response and that resumes are looked at so they can provide the best experience and connect them to the right jobs.”
“So, what’s the role that agents can play? They can go through all the resumes. They can actually respond. They can also handle situations like, if you didn’t get the job, suggesting other jobs that might be a better fit. For the agent to actually action those things, you need connections to third-party systems like ERP, middle office systems, payroll, or whatever. That’s really the role MuleSoft plays in this Adecco story.”
This example shows off the brilliant role that MuleSoft can play for companies, building on top of an existing API architecture and scaling it into an intelligent, agent-driven experience.
MuleSoft and Data Cloud: Friends or Foes?
As Data Cloud becomes a cornerstone of Salesforce’s platform, some confusion has emerged about where MuleSoft fits in, and if they are doing the same job.
Ahyoung explained that the two are actually closer than you think.
“A lot of connectors that you see on Data Cloud are actually powered by MuleSoft. We provide a lot of capabilities. The differentiation is that Data Cloud offers a single source of data in real time because you have data storage within Data Cloud. MuleSoft’s role is different but similar in that Data Cloud brings data into its environment, and we leverage that.”
“We also help bring structured and unstructured data into Data Cloud, but we can also take data out, helping you take action. We offer much more from an integration perspective beyond what Data Cloud is meant for.”
While Data Cloud is designed for real-time customer profiles and insights, MuleSoft is about moving data where it needs to go before and after it reaches the cloud. Think of it as the connective tissue, allowing both storage and action across ecosystems.
Mulesoft’s Biggest Goals Going Forward
To round up our discussion, we wanted to know what excited Ahyoung most about MuleSoft’s future, and her answer was clear and simple – making integration less manual and more intelligent.
“We’re excited about bringing generative technology into integration applications. Typically, integration apps have finite tasks, like performing an SAP-to-Salesforce integration, where you provide specific fields, it does the mapping, and you know exactly what to expect. But if you add a custom field to Salesforce, you currently have to go back into the application, manually add the change, test it again, and then redeploy.”
“Nobody wants to do all that work for minor changes – it’s cumbersome. So, we’re reimagining integration through what we call an ‘integration agent.’ This agent dynamically responds to your organization’s evolving needs, automatically adapting to changes without manual intervention. The agent handles tasks independently, saving significant human hours and effort. This is something we’re really excited about and deeply invested in exploring.”
MuleSoft’s new relationship with Agentforce is set to simplify everything – from building APIs to maintaining them. Through innovations like personalized data mapping and auto-generated specifications, integration will become faster, smarter, and more adaptive.
Final Thoughts
MuleSoft is going to play a huge role in enabling agents to take quick and meaningful action across any system for businesses.
With a vision based on accessibility for all, secure governance, and intelligent automation, MuleSoft are setting themselves and their users up for a seamless agentic future.
