### Summary of Salesforce CPQ Content Initially, in our Salesforce organization, we created quotes manually for each opportunity, which involved selecting products, entering prices, applying discounts, and preparing the quote document separately. This process was time-consuming and prone to errors. To streamline our workflow, we implemented Salesforce CPQ (Configure, Price, Quote). This tool automates the entire quoting process, including product selection, price adjustment, and document generation. **What is Salesforce CPQ?** Salesforce CPQ helps speed up the sales process by automating three key functions: - **Configure:** Suggests products and services that meet the buyer's needs. - **Price:** Automatically assigns accurate pricing and discounts. - **Quote:** Generates the quote document and sends it directly to the customer. ### Installation of Salesforce CPQ There are two main ways to access Salesforce CPQ: 1. **Paid Professional Tool Package** 2. **Free CPQ Tool Package** You can install Salesforce CPQ by accessing the setup page, checking installed packages, and downloading the CPQ app from Salesforce's official site. If you are using a developer edition, you may need to sign up for a CPQ-enabled Salesforce organization. ### Creating Quotes in Salesforce CPQ A quote in Salesforce CPQ includes products, pricing, and discounts sent to customers. Each account can have multiple opportunities and associated quotes, with one designated as the primary quote linked to the opportunity. To create a new quote: 1. Navigate to the Opportunities tab after accessing Salesforce CPQ. 2. Select the opportunity for which you want to create a quote. 3. Click on “New” in the Quotes section, fill in the required details, and save. 4. Add products to the quote using the “Line Items” section. 5. Apply discounts and calculate the final price. 6. In our Salesforce org, initially, we used to create quotes manually for every single opportunity. In that process, we had to pick the products, enter prices, apply discounts, and then prepare the quote document separately before sending it to the customer.
Later, we integrated Salesforce CPQ (Configure, Price, Quote). With CPQ, we can automate the entire process of selecting the right products, applying accurate pricing, and generating a document within CPQ.
In this Salesforce tutorial, I will explain Salesforce CPQ, its installation, and how to create Quotes in Salesforce CPQ.
What is Salesforce CPQ?
Salesforce CPQ stands for Configure, Price, and Quote. It is an advanced tool used to fasten the sales process in Salesforce by automating the configuration, pricing, and quoting steps.
- Configure – Automatically get the list of products and services best suited to the buyer’s requirements.
- Price – Automatically assigns the most accurate and optimized price and discount on the products and services.
- Quote – automatically creates the quote and emails it to the potential buyer.

Install Salesforce CPQ
To install or access Salesforce CPQ, there are two ways we can follow:
- Access CPQ Through Package Installation
- Sign up for a CPQ-enabled Salesforce org
Access CPQ Through Package Installation
If you are using the Salesforce developer edition, then most probably you won’t have Salesforce CPQ already installed.
On the setup page of Salesforce, go to the Quick Find box, search, and then select Installed Packages.

In the above image, if you see the marked Salesforce CPQ, that means it is already installed in your system.
Click on the link to download the CPQ app from Salesforce’s official site. There, you can choose between the production environment and the sandbox.

It will ask you to log in again, and then you have to choose the users you want to install CPQ for. In our case, we have selected Install for Admins Only.
Click the checkbox to acknowledge the installation, then select Install or Get. Since we have already installed it, that is why it is giving an upgrade option here.

This process may take some time; you will receive an email once the installation is completed.
After successfully installing Salesforce CPQ, click the configure button for Salesforce CPQ. Then, you will see a page as shown in the image below.
Make changes to the Pricing and Calculation as per the company policies. You can add currency symbols; we have set currency symbols as US dollars ($) for the United States of America.
Click on the Authorize New Calculation button to authorize the changes.

Click on the Allow button to grant access.

From the Salesforce setup, go to the App Launcher and search for Salesforce CPQ. If you can see the Salesforce CPQ there, that means it is successfully installed.

With this, we have learned how to install Salesforce CPQ in Lightning Experience.
Signup For CPQ-Enabled Salesforce Org
Another way we can access the Salesforce CPQ is by using the CPQ-enabled Salesforce developer org. ( CPQ org link)
In this window, enter all the required details, check the terms and agreement, then click on the Signup button.

Open the registered email and navigate to url then log in with your credentials.

After this, go to Setup and click on the App Launcher. Under the Apps section, you can view the Salesforce CPQ.

This way, we can access Salesforce CPQ in the developer org.
Quotes in Salesforce CPQ
In Salesforce CPQ, a Quote is a document that contains the products, prices, and discounts that we send in a proposal to a customer.
In Salesforce, each account can have multiple opportunities, and each opportunity can have multiple quotes with one primary quote.
In Salesforce CPQ, a Primary Quote is the main quote linked to an Opportunity, and its products, prices, and totals are automatically copied to the Opportunity. Suppose you have three quotes in Opportunity, which are:
- Basic package – $10,000
- Premium package – $15,000
- Enterprise package – $20,000
If you set the Premium package as the Primary Quote, the Opportunity will show $15,000 as the amount and list the premium products in its related products. Also, we can only create an order from the primary quote.
Create a New Quote in Salesforce CPQ
After installing Salesforce CPQ, we will learn how to create a new quote in Salesforce CPQ.
To create a quote in a CPQ-enabled Salesforce org, go to the Setup, click App Launcher, and select Salesforce CPQ.

Navigate to the Opportunities tab and select the opportunity in which you want to create quotes.

In the Opportunity record page, go to the related lists Quotes and click on the New button.

In the quote information, enter the details such as Quote Name, Expiration Date, and Billing/Shipping info. Select the checkbox “primary” if this will be the main quote, and click Save.

Add Products to Quotes
After creating the quote, we need to add the Products to the quote. To add the products, click on the Line Items in the quote record. It will navigate to the Edit Quote window.
In the Edit Quote window, click on the Add Products button.

Select the checkboxes for the products you want to add to the Quotes, and click on the Select button, and click Next.

In the Configuration/Price page, enter the quantity of products and apply any discounts if needed.
After applying the discount, click the Calculate button to get the discounted price in the quote. At last, click Save.

With this, products or line items will be added to the quotes.
Generate Quote Document
Now that the quote is complete with products, pricing, and discounts, you can view and download it as a document.
To generate the created quote’s document, go to the quote record and click on the Generate Document button.

Select the Template to view and generate the quote document.

After this, the quote will be generated in the PDF format, and from here you can also download it as an external file.

This way we can create a quote in Salesforce CPQ and generate a quote document.
Conclusion
In this Salesforce tutorial, we learned how to install Salesforce CPQ, create a new quote, add products, apply discounts, and generate a professional quote document.
By using the Salesforce CPQ, we can enhance the quoting process in our Salesforce org to ensure accuracy by automating configuration, pricing, and proposal generation.
